Hello Surf Team,

I have had some requests for surf practice to be held over the school break. If the waves are too good to miss, I will set up a practice or two. Chances are that I will not hold the practice at the usual time, day or location since we are all on vacation. So, have a good vacation... and stay tuned for practice information.

Cody Gilbert (former Aptos Jr High surf team member) has two surfboards for sale. They are;

Surf Practice Friday, December 11

So, the practice is going to be at Capitola... yes Capitola... again. Same time, 4:00. If the swell drops again or it feels like we are in Alaska, I may cancel the practice. As of Dec 7, the water quality report looks good for the area, but that does not take into account the recent rain. I really don't think anyone wants to get sick before vacation, so if it rains more tonight, that will be another factor I will consider.

Just for the record, again I have been asked about having practice at another location like Manresa. I understand wanting to go other places, but I need the practices to fit the needs of the majority of the team. This means... in my opinion, Capitola is a surf spot that will benefit the team members learning to surf more than Manresa would. So, if you are one of the more experienced surfers, I am sorry.

Contest update

The contest site for us is going to be the jetty and I had originally read that our school was not starting until 10:00, but that is wrong. Our team has a heat starting at 8:30 and the Core has requested you be at the site one hour prior to your heats. So, check the attached heat sheet and be sure you are up to date on your starting times. I will have my cell phone on Saturday night, so if you have questions feel free to call me. If you don't have my cell it is 212-1791. I will also attach the venue directions in case you don't have it.

Francis Kelly State Beach:

From Swift Street in Santa Cruz to Francis Kelly State Beach (AKA Kelly Street)

North Hwy #1 46.7 Miles

Left Kelly Ave.

Continue to the end of the street and turn right at park entrance.

Entrance Fee is required! State Park Passes are accepted.

The Jetty:

From Swift Street in Santa Cruz to the Dirt Parking lot at the Jetty

North Hwy #1 approx. 50 miles

Right on Coronado

Immediate Left on Obispo

Continue 3/10ths of a mile.

Parking lot is on the west side of the road in front of the Fire Station.

Parking is Free!
